Scrapping with a flourish

What a great theme for a cyber crop!  Despite my late start, I'm doing some of the challenges at the Mystical Scrapbooks cyber crop.

This is my entry for Jane's challenge ~ use pearl flourishes on a layout:

It was a super quick layout, made easy by sketch #141 at Sketches in Thyme.
I'm also submitting at Scrap it Girl for the Selfies theme.

Materials:
FWAB Chloe - Red pearl flourish
October Afternoon Sasparilla - High Noon patterned paper
October Afternoon Sasparilla - Pony Express patterned paper
Basic Grey Sublime - Cinnamon patterned paper
Cre8tiv alphabet stickers

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

This is my entry for Tracy's challenge - use two different flourishes, and one must be handmade:

1> Stamped flourish frame (I can't remember the last time I used this stamp set!)
2> I made my own flourish by embossing a piece of cardstock and fussy-cutting the flourish motif. Then I inked the embossed design to make it stand out, and used it as an embellishment.

I also created this layout with the LESSology Ribbon Fantasy challenge in mind.  I used recycled corrugated cardboard to mat the photograph for this layout - it's one of my go-to materials.  It's zero-cost, and it always adds the right amount of texture or dimension.  As for the ribbons ~ I have a huge stash of dyed seam-binding ribbon, and I thought it would be perfect for the vintage-y feel of the photograph.

Materials:

Kaisercraft Lil Primrose - Fancy Dress patterned paper
Prairie Bird Boutique wrinkled ribbon
Prima Iron Orchid Designs - Build-a-Frame Collection 1 stamp
Stazon Timber ink
Provocraft Cuttlebug - Victoria embossing folder

21/04/2015 EDIT TO ADD:  My layout was selected in the Top 3 at LESSology:

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

This is my entry for Donna's challenge ~ use a chipboard flourish:

I painted and heat embossed the chipboard to give it some shine.

I'm also entering this layout at Simon Says Wednesday Challenge, for their Anything Goes theme.

Materials:
Becky Higgins Project Life - Jade Collection patterned paper
RW Laser Cuts Scroll Corners 3 chipboard flourish
Kaisercolour White acrylic paint
Clear embossing powder
Bazzill Basics cardstock offcuts
Spiral paper clip from my stationery supplies
Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type alphabet stickers
Cotton thread

Cyber cropping with D-lish Scraps

I had some messy fun with this layout {paint smears and a 2-word title}:

This one will be for my family trip album for summer break at Tin Can Bay. I know I haven't finished any of our 2012, 2013 or 2014 trip albums AND now I've started the first 2015 one...

Materials:
K&Company McKenna - Pink Swirls patterned paper
Basic Grey Two Scoops - Spumoni patterned paper
KI Memories Holey Cardstock
Kaisercolour Coastal Blue acrylic paint

High up

Super simple layout, but I'm really happy with this one!

Flourish with a Bling has a fun challenge to alter a FWAB product and use it on a project.  I altered a laser flourish by applying texture paste with a stipple brush, to create a 'wave foam' effect:

I'm also submitting at Clique Kits for my third monthly entry in their Anything Goes theme.

Materials:
Kaisercraft Loire Valley - Osmunda patterned paper and journalling spot
FWAB Jasmine - Teal laser flourish
American Crafts Thickers - Jewelry Box chipboard alphabets

EDIT 04/04/2015:  Thrilled to be selected as a winner at Flourish with a Bling!

Blue skies

I made another double layout for the J-girl's skydive album.  This is one of the freefall photographs. Click to enlarge:

Photo credit: Peter Brierley (GoPro 3, stillframe from video)

I used sketch #142 from Sketches in Thyme.  I flipped the sketch and put my own spin on it (as I frequently do!) to make it fit the double spread.   The journalling card has been left blank for J-girl to add her own thoughts

I'm submitting at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge for the BLUE theme.  Nothing but blue skies...

Materials:
Bazzill Kraft cardstock
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High - Journal Cards card and patterned paper
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High - Flight Path patterned paper
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High - Stickers
Gold sequins
Gold stars

Cousins

Back to some layouts for our Sydney 2014 album - I've almost finished the birthday party/family shots!

This layout was inspired by several different challenges.  I started with the sketch from Scrap our Stash, using some gold:

I used shades of purple for the inspiration challenge #10/2015 at Scrapbook Fantasies.  Purple is still not my favourite colour to scrap with, but I'm not so intimidated by it anymore.

I followed the criteria for the March challenge at Funky Flairs:

* Colour of the month: GOLD {I used glitter cardstock}
* Add any FUNKY FLAIR {I used a button from the Chalkboard set}
* Include embossing {I used Cuttlebug - Jamara embossing folder}

01/05/2015 - Sharing my layout at the Paper Issues {Chalk One Up} linky party. Love this chalkboard flair!

10/05/2015 - Featured at Paper Issues!

Materials:
Bo Bunny Jazmyne - Terrace glitter embossed patterned paper
My Memories Glitter - Bright Gold cardstock
Bazzill Basics cardstock
Funky Flairs Chalkboard flair button
Buzz & Bloom Rusty Alphabet - Teensy chipboard letters
Fiskars 1.5" circle punch
Prima Mini Me - Black/Grey flowers
Green Tara Mini Roses - Black flowers
Green Tara 2.5cm Petals - Black flowers
Beads and brads

17 March 2015

Hello...

I have no shortage of "Peter with his chooks" photos and I came across another one that I wanted to scrap.  I used the March sketch and colour palette from Off the Rails:

I dug into my "brown scraps" stash for this one - it's amazing how much can be done with just a few scraps :)  To add some vintage elements I used metal filigree embellishments, which also tied in with the colour palette without needing to paint or otherwise alter them.  Lots of bits and pieces clustered and layered:

I also incorporated elements from the second March challenge at Mystical Scrapbooks -
* 6 circles as embellishments (metal, button, wood veneer, 3x punched patterned paper)
* 3 squares (square doodled frame, photograph, tiny patterned paper)
* 5 rectangles (photo mat, rectangle doodled frame, 4x paper strips - VERY skinny rectangles!!)

I'm also submitting my layout at Clique Kits for their Anything Goes theme.

Materials:
Words or Whatever Hello Circle wood veneer
Fiskars 1.5" circle punch
Metal filigree embellishments

White with hemlock

What a gorgeous colour choice at White with 1 this month.  This is what I created:

It's kind of hard to see the cute little chicks in the above photo (they are the size of my thumb!), so here are the close-ups:

Materials:
Paper doiley
Washi tape
Becky Higgins Project Life - Jade Collection patterned paper
LuminArte Twinkling H2O's - Navajo Pearl watercolour paint
Prima Welcome to Paris textured canvas numbers

Smiles

I was inspired by Show Us Your Stuff to create this layout in response to the March challenge:

I used the provided quote as my title, and the featured handmade item is the gorgeous Charm's Creations heart.  I have also hand drawn (doodled) the border on my base cardstock.

Other materials:
K&Company McKenna - Pink Swirls patterned paper
WRMK patterned paper
American Crafts Thickers - Root Beer Float foam alphabets
Cre8tiv alphabet stickers

Scrappy Friends

I don't know if I've ever combined all three Scrappy Friends challenges in a single layout before, but I managed to do it this month!

Brenda's sketch ~ I put my own spin on it but it still formed the basis of the layout.
Rochelle's Tic Tac Toe ~ I went every which-way and used all of the prompts except for the enamel dots.  (stitching - triangles - mini-alphas) (stitching - green - stars) (triangles - green - journalling strips)  and so on...
Kelly's colour challenge ~ I used all colours except the lime green.

And a little close-up to see the stitching better:

Materials:
October Afternoon Sasparilla - Tumbleweeds patterned paper
Becky Higgins Project Life - Jade Collection patterned paper
Pink Paislee Spring Fling - Rain Showers patterned paper
Washi tape
CTMH Silhouette alphabet stickers
Carolee's Creations Adorn It - Tiny Worn Navy alphabet stickers
Gold stars

First ever...

"Pocket Scrapping" style spread (gasp!)  I've been toying with the idea for a while, but I really wasn't sure...  This is what I came up with for my first effort.

The full double page spread (click to enlarge):

The left side:

And the right side:

I'm using Simple Stories pages (6x8) so that I can mix and match the pages in my 8x8 albums.  I don't think I can fill an album just with this kind of scrapping, but it's nice to do something different for a change (and a challenge - it's not as easy as I thought it would be!)

I'd like to submit my pages at:
* Simon Says Wednesday Challenge ~ Things that Fly.  I've used a chipboard butterfly and a bird sticker.
* Scrapbook Fantasies ~ Weekly Inspiration #9/2015 ~ Create a project about a journey.  This double page features part of our family trip to Lightning Ridge in 2013.  It was a LONG journey!

Beach babes

I loved putting this layout together... another new favourite:

I was inspired by the March mood board at Sassy Scrappers, especially the soft coral tones:

I used the March sketch from Blue Fern Studios.  {BFS products used: Blue Fern Garden - Boudoir patterned paper and Bohemian Flowers chipboard.}

I tried to soften the edges of the patterned papers by applying some smudges of gesso with a sponge wedge ~ not sure how I feel about the result but it was fun trying.  I added some gold with a smattering of sequins for Cuttin' and Stampin':

I'm also submitting my layout at Scrap it Girl for their Selfies theme.  {Full credit to J-girl for the selfie photograph. She's the expert!}

Other materials:
Basic Grey Two Scoops - Strawberry Smoothie patterned paper
Paper doiley
Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst - Salt Water Taffy mist
Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst - Cape Cod Coral mist
Tsukineko Versacube - Topaz inkpad
Gold sequins
Prima Meadow Lark textured canvas alphabets

Scrapping the girls

This is my entry for the March Scrap the Girls challenge, based on the provided sketch:

I remember buying this paper for the yellow flower motifs (I **love** yellow!) but I ended up using the flip-side for this layout.  I still used some of the delicious yellow for the fussy-cut flowers.  Most of the other photographs taken on this day feature the male members of our brigade; this will probably be one of the only 'girly' ones in this album!

Materials:
Pink Paislee Indigo Bleu - Burlap patterned paper
Spellbinders Borderbilities - On the Vine die
Crate Paper Crush -Lagoon patterned paper
American Crafts Thickers - Marquise pearl chipboard letters
My Memories butterfly punch

Laugh with pleasure

Another layout with photo from last year's winter mini-break, but a more generic one this time...

I put a LOT of "stuff" on this layout... making some more inroads into my older stash, but trying some new things too.

Here are some of the details:

Painted metal adornments with gesso and Twinkling H2O paints, handmade paper roses and diecut vine ~

Title (I stencilled on top of the photo and papers using modelling paste... that was actually quite a leap of faith because there was huge potential to mess it up!!  And then I got even braver and added ink outline AND Twinkling H2O colour on top):

I am feeling quite stoked at how this came together, and I am submitting it at:

* Scrapbook Fantasies ~ Create a project using stencilling
* Simon Says Wednesday Challenge ~ Special Lady/Girly theme

Materials:
Spellbinders Borderbilities – On the Vine die
Basic Grey Perhaps – Julia patterned paper
Basic Grey Gypsy – Harem patterned paper
Basic Grey Urban Prairie – Bonnet patterned paper
Basic Grey Two Scoops – Strawberry patterned paper
Prima Annalee – Romance patterned paper
October Afternoon Cherry Hill – New Apron patterned paper
TCW Zenspirations - Mini Live Love Laugh 6x6 stencil

LuminArte Twinkling H2O – Pink Cloud watercolour paint

Another glimpse of Tenterfield

This layout was based on the March sketch at The Scrapbook Store.

Not a lot of product on this layout... I used a sheet of patterned paper that's been in my stash for quite some time - double-sided with soft green and grey tones.  It seemed a shame to cover up the embossed design so I fussy cut some of the flourish leaves while leaving them attached to the paper, and tucked the next layer in between.  I used some of the leftover paper to make my own rolled roses.

I'm submitting my layout at Simon Says Monday Challenge for their Hint of Clover theme, and at Clique Kits for their Anything Goes theme.

Materials:
My Memories embossed patterned paper
Making Memories Noteworthy glitter die cuts
Prima Meadow Lark textured canvas alphabet stickers

Time is a traveller...

This is my entry for the March challenge at ARTastic.  I chose a stripey background, inspired by the artwork:

My title is quoted from the lyrics of "Tenterfield Saddler" by the late Peter Allen.

This is a companion page to this layout.  Not a actually a double, but I used the same colours and mostly the same products.

Here's a close up of the journalling:

I got a lot of the details from the tourist information, and then I wrote a precis for my layout.  I typed it up on the computer, then printed it out.  (There is more journalling on the back of the card.)

I'm also entering my layout at Scrapbook Fantasies for Weekly Inspiration Challenge #17-2015 - use bricks.

Materials:
Becky Higgins Project Life - Jade Collection patterned papers
Bazzill Basics cardstock
MFT Dienamics - Little Letters alphabet dies
Cr8tiv alphabet and border stickers

08/04/2015 EDIT TO ADD ~ Thrilled to be selected as a winner at ARTastic:

And it's another Bald Rock layout...

I think this is one of my favourite layouts so far this year:

I also incorporated criteria from these two challenges:

Picture This:  ONE PHOTO + CIRCLES + TILT

The Exit...

The title of this layout refers to exiting the aircraft when parachuting...  and this layout is the second one for the J-girl's "first tandem" scrapbook.   I created a double page for this one; I photographed the layout before I cut it in half.  Clickety-click to enlarge:

Photo credit: Peter Brierley (GoPro 3, stillframe from video)

I was inspired by the Kraft+ March challenge:

Sketch ~ My layout was inspired by the sketch but I didn't stick really closely to it. I stretched it out across my two pages and moved a few things around, but if you squint you can still see the ghost of the sketch!
All that glitters ~ I used lots of stars, but then I realised the criteria probably required "actual shiny stuff" so I added the gold sequins, which really do make a gorgeous finishing touch!

Materials:
Bazzill Kraft cardstock
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High patterned papers
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High stickers
Cocoa Vanilla Flying High wood veneers
Gold sequins
Carolee's Creations Adorn It - Tiny Worn Navy alphabet stickers

Smile, cute stuff!

This layout is the first in a scrapbook that I'm making to commemorate the J-girl's first skydive.  She has the video, but I thought it would be fun to grab a bunch of stills from the video and make a small album for her:

Photo credit: Peter Brierley (GoPro 3, stillframe from video)

I'm entering this page at Mystical Scrapbooks for their monochromatic challenge, and also at Simon Says Wednesday Challenge for their Anything Goes theme.

Pixels and Paper - March reveal

I fell in love with this month's Pixels and Paper inspiration photograph as soon as I saw it, and I just knew I was going to make a monochromatic red page:

... but I didn't!

When I sat down to scrap, the image in my head wasn't coming out on the page... so I shelved my first idea and started again.  My creative wanderings led me down a different path, and this is the layout I ended up with, inspired by the gorgeous shoes and sparkles:

(By the way... the shoe box in the picture is the one that I cut up to make this layout last month.)  I added a handful of homemade flowers, some ribbon offcuts and lots of silver thread.

I am sharing my layout at Simon Says Monday Challenge for their No Rules theme.

Materials:
MAMBI Mixed Media patterned paper
Basic Grey Blush - Crush patterned paper
Basic Grey Nook & Pantry - Strawberry Shortcake patterned paper
Making Memories ShimmerAlpha - Silver stickers
American Crafts Remarks - Chloe alphabet stickers
A2Z Scraplets Shapes - Shoe Set chipboard shape
Smooch Taffy pearlised accent ink
